Refer a Family | For Professionals | Hopeful Neuron

Melillo Method certified practitioners

For OTs, speech therapists, GPs, SENCos and teachers

Refer a family to Hopeful Neuron.

You can see a child is stuck. So can their parents.
We work on the layer underneath: the nervous system, primitive reflexes, posture and movement. And we work alongside what you’re already doing.

Is this family a good fit?

We’re often a good next step when a child already has support in place but still seems stuck. For example, when:

Regulation is the barrier. Meltdowns, shutdowns or anxiety get in the way of everything else you’re trying to do.
Movement looks immature. Poor balance, clumsy coordination, toe walking, low tone or awkward posture.
Learning isn’t landing. Attention, handwriting or reading are hard work, even with good teaching and support.
The family is waiting. They’re on an NHS list and want something practical to do in the meantime.

Children we help

We also support children with anxiety, OCD, Tourette’s and tics, PANDAS, and meltdowns and emotional regulation.

How a referral works.

Four simple steps, with the family in control throughout.

  1. Talk to the family first.

Please check the family is happy to be referred before you share anything about their child with us.

  2. The family books a free 15 minute call.

They can book directly, or you can get in touch with us first. We listen, ask questions and tell them honestly whether we think we can help.

  3. We see the child.

Depending on where they live and what they need, that’s a remote look plus a plan, a day in our Mill Hill clinic, or an intensive week.

  4. We keep you in the loop.

With the family’s consent, we’re happy to share what we found and the home plan, so your work and ours pull in the same direction.

What you can expect from us

  • We don’t diagnose, and we won’t ask families to stop any therapy or treatment.
  • We’ll tell families honestly if we think something else would serve them better.
  • We explain what we do in plain language, and we’re open about what the research does and doesn’t show.

Questions we often get asked.

Does the child need a diagnosis?
No. Many of the families we see are still on waiting lists or haven’t pursued a diagnosis. If you’re seeing things that worry you, that’s enough to refer.
Do you replace occupational therapy or speech therapy?
No, and we’d never ask a family to stop. OT and speech therapy teach skills. We work on the body and brain those skills sit on, things like reflexes, balance and coordination. Lots of our families do both.
Can you see children who live outside London?
Yes. Families in the US, Australia, Israel and across Europe work with us online with the same level of support.
What ages do you work with?
Children from 18 months to 18 years, from toddlers who are late to walk or talk through to teenagers.
Is there research behind your approach?
Honestly, it’s still early. Research on primitive reflexes and movement programmes is growing, but there aren’t many studies yet and most are small. So we track every child’s progress. See the science behind what we do.
How do I get in touch about a family?
Use our contact page, or ask the family to book a free 15 minute call and mention who referred them, so we can keep you in the loop.

Know a family who’s stuck?

Get in touch and tell us a little about them. We’ll tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
